Students from Ms. Kirk’s Practical Nursing class recently had the incredible opportunity to observe a surgical procedure and assist with processing surgical instruments following the operation at North Walton Doctors Hospital.

Experiences like these provide valuable hands-on learning that helps prepare our future nurses for success in the healthcare field. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-world clinical experiences.

ECTC Electricity students are taking charge!

Students from the Electricity Program at Emerald Coast Technical College recently had the opportunity to complete work-based learning experience hours at the Emerald Coast Council on Aging in DeFuniak Springs.

Under the guidance of instructor Johnny Lynch, students practiced important industry skills, including ladder safety, lockout/tagout procedures, and replacing existing lighting with new LED fixtures.

We are proud of these students for stepping outside the classroom and applying their skills in a real-world setting while giving back to the community. Even more exciting—the class will return in August to continue assisting with additional projects.

ECTC at WMS - Full Circle Moments

Earlier this month, Diana Gillis, current Grant Writer & Public Relations Specialist at Emerald Coast Technical College, had the opportunity to return to her roots at Walton Middle School to speak with AVID students in Mrs. Kristen Nelson’s classroom about the incredible opportunities available at Emerald Coast Technical College.

What made today even more special? Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Gillis not only attended WMS together as students, but they also later worked side by side as educators at WMS. Today was truly a full-circle moment!

Students participated in an interest survey to discover which ECTC programs matched their career interests and then played an interactive bingo game to learn fun facts and details about ECTC programs. Winners even had the chance to spin the prize wheel and take home ECTC swag!

Mrs. Gillis shared that she thoroughly enjoyed being back in the classroom and teaching again while helping students explore future career pathways. She was also touched by all the thank-you cards she received later from all of Mrs. Nelson's students. Continue to share your light with your students, Mrs. Nelson!
