ECTC Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence, Accountability and Workforce Readiness

Emerald Coast Technical College continues its commitment to preparing students for successful careers while providing affordable, high-quality workforce education to Walton County and Northwest Florida.

As part of its recently published Public Commitment to Excellence, Accountability, and Workforce Readiness, ECTC highlighted the standards, outcomes, and practices that guide the College’s career and technical education programs at its DeFuniak Springs campus and Emerald Coast Technical College @ Magnet Innovation Center – Watersound.

At the center of that commitment is ECTC’s mission: to prepare and empower today’s students to meet the demands of an evolving and competitive workforce.

Strong Outcomes for ECTC Students

ECTC’s 2025 Annual Report to the Council on Occupational Education reflects strong student outcomes:

94% Completion Rate • 78% Placement Rate • 94% Licensure Rate

These numbers represent more than statistics. They reflect students completing rigorous career training, earning industry credentials and licenses, and moving forward into employment and additional educational opportunities.

ECTC programs are designed around demonstrated workforce demand in Walton County and Northwest Florida, with training focused on areas such as healthcare, skilled construction trades, information technology, transportation, and personal services. Program decisions are informed by labor-market data and input from the ECTC’s Institutional Advisory Committee.

Affordable Pathways to In-Demand Careers

ECTC also remains committed to keeping career education accessible and transparent. For the 2026–2027 school year, Florida-resident tuition is $2.92 per clock hour, with financial assistance opportunities available to eligible students through programs including the Federal Pell Grant, Florida Bright Futures, Florida Postsecondary Career Education Student Assistance Grant, Florida Work Experience Program, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, ECTC Opportunity Scholarship, veterans’ benefits, and institutional payment plans.

ECTC graduates do not carry federal student loan debt from attending the College because ECTC does not offer federal student loans.

Training That Leads to Real-World Skills

Across ECTC’s career and technical programs, successful completion is based on demonstrated competency. Students are expected to master occupational skills, meet attendance and participation requirements, complete required assessments, and, when applicable, demonstrate their knowledge through industry certification and licensure examinations.

Students have opportunities to earn nationally and industry-recognized credentials through organizations and examinations including NCLEX, ASE, NCCER, CompTIA, NATE and Prometric.

ECTC’s programs range from 165 to 1,800 clock hours, creating multiple entry points into the workforce and opportunities for students to continue building upon their training. Pathways are intentionally designed to stack in some areas—for example, qualifying Patient Care Technician students may earn articulated credit toward Practical Nursing.

Preparing the Workforce That Keeps Our Community Moving

The impact of career and technical education can be seen throughout our community.

ECTC prepares practical nurses, registered nurses, patient care technicians, pharmacy technicians and phlebotomists who serve healthcare facilities; electricians, plumbers, HVAC/R technicians and welders who help build and maintain infrastructure; information technology professionals who support an increasingly technology-driven workforce; and automotive technicians and other skilled professionals who help keep Northwest Florida moving.

Through its Specialized Career Education programs, ECTC also provides structured career preparation opportunities for students with disabilities.

Focused on Students. Focused on the Workforce. Focused on the Future.

ECTC’s Public Commitment reinforces what has long been central to the College: transparent admissions, affordable education, academic rigor, measurable student outcomes, industry-aligned instruction, and career preparation that responds to the workforce needs of Walton County and Northwest Florida.

From the classroom and lab to clinical experiences and industry certifications, ECTC students are gaining the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to take the next step toward their future.

At Emerald Coast Technical College, workforce education is more than training for a job—it is preparation for opportunity.

We prepare and empower today’s students to meet the demands of an evolving and competitive workforce.
